The Great Society Part II?

The Liberty Papers are painting a scary picture for our future…

Further, if things get bad, you can expect a quick increase in the level of socialism in this country. In an effort to placate both American big business and American voters, you’ll see the government take over health care. As a result of the inflation government will cause, you’ll quickly see them try to institute price controls and wage controls, like the 1970’s. All the while, they’ll blame scapegoats like outsourcing companies, while their own inflationary policies are causing the problem.

Pretty soon there won’t be anything left to socialize, then what? The whole article paints a pretty bleak picture. The ARMs, interest only loans, and baloon loans that have propped up the real estate market are some of the most worrisome. As bad as it is going to be for all those people who thought the ride would never end, it sure would be great to be sitting on a big mountain of cash.

Can’t Wait to See Gore’s Graph for Mars

National Geographic’s article on Martian Warming

Minimum Wage Increase

The Farragut Press‘s commentary about minimum wage increases brings up some interesting points, primarily that raising the minimum wage won’t help poor people because the cost of everything will rise, and some companies will be forced to eliminate some jobs in order to pay the remaining employees the higher wages.

These are legitimate arguments, but the article leaves out the most important reason to abolish the minimum wage–the minimum wage is immoral.

Compensation for services should be decided between the person provided the service and the person purchasing it.  If they agree on the price, both walk away happy.

Roth IRAs Are a Bad Idea

Okay, I don’t really believe that, but this post brings up some reasonable points.  The most important point is that if we ever do change our tax structure over to a value added tax, any Roth contributions would be double taxed.  Not holding my breath hoping that will happen any time soon, but it’s something to consider.
